φCadeφ stretches and yawns as he walks into the Trill. He’d accidentally stayed up until seven in the morning playing video games and was had only woken up an hour or so ago. He waves to Eric and gets his usual Blue Moon before plopping down in a chair and scanning for any familiar faces.

¤ ֎ Ethan Talbot ֎ ¤ meanders into the Trill. He was a tall, solid man in his late 20s or early 30s, with unkempt wavy long hair and bronzed skin by the sun. His eyes had a power behind them and one might think he was much older than he looked if they studied his eyes for a moment. His clothes were a button down shirt, bdu pants of black, and a deep chocolate

brown leather jacket that had seen better days. He headed over to the bar and would order a bottle of Jim Beam from Erik and then after receiving it, he offered up a warm thanks. He’d then head over to a booth and slide in to the seat.

φCadeφ rubs his smoothly shaven head as he sips his beer and glances around at the other patrons. As he does so, Cade makes a few odd motions with his fingers and mutters some Latin while Hecatrix runs a quick program in the background. He looks back over across the bar and frowns. The auras aren’t showing up as clearly as he’d like. Sighing and shaking his head, Cade sips his beer again. “Must be

more tired than I thought.”

¤ ֎ Ethan Talbot ֎ ¤ checks the area out and then pours himself a shot of the Jim Beam in a glass, and drinks it. “Not bad.”

¤ ֎ Ethan Talbot ֎ ¤ ‘s gaze falls onto Cade and he studies him for a moment.

φCadeφ notices one of the other patrons staring at him intently and frowns. “Let’s give this one a second look Hecatrix.” He motions with his fingers again, a bit more subtly this time, and mutters the incarnation once more. The aura comes into view much clearer this time, and as Hecatrix’s analysis scrawls across his view feed he pales a bit. “Oh great, a nervous were-thing. That should end well.”

He gulps down another swig of beer and reaches inside his coat to make sure both his pistol and his wand are easily accessible. For a moment Cade seriously considers leaving the creature alone but shakes off the notion. “Practice what you preach Cade. We’re all worthy of friendship and assistance regardless of species.” Waving away a series of warning messages from Hecatrix regarding shifter beha

vior patterns and death statistics of Mages who tangle with them, Cade walks over and sits in the booth across from the man. “Hiya, name’s Cade, I’m new in town.”

¤ ֎ Ethan Talbot ֎ ¤ smirked slightly. “I’m not nervous and I’m not a were-‘thing’. You are a Mage with a lack of manners there, kid.”

¤ ֎ Ethan Talbot ֎ ¤ “You, however…” He gestured to where he kept his weapons. “Are actually nervous. I’m not gonna hurt you and I admire you were brave enough to actually walk over here.” * he’d offer the man his hand to shake. “Ethan.”

<Vaclava>zips down to the Trill in her delachappelle and heads into the bar. Tonight is is wearing an eggplant colored aoi dai like this one, except with matching eggplant stage shoes with shiny little crystals on them.

8:09 PM <25B100• BlackWidow> <Vaclava>zips down to the Trill in her delachappelle and heads into the bar. Tonight is is wearing an eggplant colored aoi dai like this one, except with matching eggplant stage shoes with shiny little crystals on them.

<Vaclava>greets Erik warmly and gives him a sizeable tip for half a glass of cheap wine. Looks around for familiar faces and lights up when she sees Ethan and Case, heads over to them.

<Vaclava>”Ethan you scoundrel, vwhat hafve you been doing vwith yourselfv?” Hugs and kisses cheeks.

φCadeφ shakes Ethan’s hand and smiles. “Quite the pair of ears you have on you to hear that from across the bar. I’ll have to make note of that in the future. As for these…” He looks down at his jacket. “Well you never can be too careful. I don’t know much about shifters aside from what I have read and…well I’m sure you can imagine the picture that paints.” He frowns a bit and lowers his voice.

“I don’t mean to be contrary but…you read as being nervous. Or at least a lot of nervous energy. You sure nothing is bothering you?”

φCadeφ smiles at Vaclava as she approaches, turning only half as red as usual. “Miss Vaclava! Nice to see you!”

¤ ֎ Ethan Talbot ֎ ¤ shrugs. “I am not nervous of anything here. There are others out there though that are much stronger that I fight against. I keep my senses up all the time so I can find them.” He’d glance over at Vaclava and offer her a genuine smile. “Hello there, Vaclava. You look as beautiful as ever.”

φCadeφ nods at Ethan. “Ah that must be it. Watchfulness and nervousness can look pretty similar sometimes.” He takes another sip of beer and turns to Vaclava. “How’s your night going?” He smiles at her and his cheeks flush a little, which prompts him to tug on his lowered hood, bringing the edges up around his face a bit like a collar.

<Vaclava>smiles at Cade “Good efvening, Monsieur Cade, I see you hafve met this charming rogue here…”turns back to Ethan with an exaggerated scowl “Don’t you try to svweet talk me, Ethan, I vwas vworried!”

¤ ֎ Ethan Talbot ֎ ¤ “Aww, what were you worried about? And I do want to thank you for this phone thang. I am getting used to it and can now call people and text and even email.”

φCadeφ gives Ethan a somewhat incredulous look. He’d read that shifters were not big on technology but it still surprised him that the man was that far behind the times.

<Vaclava>”You are vwelcome and yet… I see you hafve also picked up the modern male habit ofv not actually using it unless there’s a vfuneral.”

¤ ֎ Ethan Talbot ֎ ¤ looks off and smirks, rubbing his unshaved chin. “Okay, fair enough allegation, ma’am. I suppose I should have sent something. I can now, if it helps.” He’d pour some whiskey into the shot glass and drink it. “You going to sit with us? This fella is Cade. He’s a Mage.”

<Vaclava>”Yes, I hafve met the delightvful Monsieur Cade and heard a bit about his skills.” Puts hand on hip and tilts head “I don’t know, I should make you do it, text to get you to practice!”

¤ ֎ Ethan Talbot ֎ ¤ grunts and then reaches into his jacket inner pocket and pulls out the cell phone that Vaclava gave him. “Very well. I can do it.” He’d then start the process of typing her out a message.

<Vaclava>sits next to Cade “And how is your efvening, Monsieur Cade?”

φCadeφ snickers at Ethan and finishes off his beer. “Not bad for only being awake an hour or two.” He gets distracted for a moment and taps at the air as a message pops up on his view feed. “Hmm. Hecatrix wants to know where your accent is from, Miss Vaclava. She says it’ll help her parse your speech patterns more easily if she knows what language the…accent…is from.” His pause makes it clear t

hat whatever Hecatrix said wasn’t ‘accent’.

<Vaclava>looks slightly offended, raises an eyebrow. “Hecatrix? And vwho is this person…? Ah, I recall now, she is your vfamiliar, yes?”

¤ ֎ Ethan Talbot ֎ ¤ finally sends a message to Vaclava. He then pours himself another shot of the Jim Beam and drinks it, and puts his phone away. Success! Now to chill out again.

φCadeφ laughs and swipes at the air several times as a flurry of angry messages floods his view. “Oh my god Hec! She’s only heard me talk about you like one time, calm down!” He continues laughing for a bit then shakes his head. “Yeah Hecatrix is my familiar. And she is very upset that you don’t remember her.” He snickers and swipes the air again. “Shush, Hec.”

<Vaclava>lips quirk as she suppresses a satisfied smirk. “I see, and vfor vwhat reason should she need to… parse…my speech? She isn’t recording me, is she?”

<Vaclava>allows Ethan to suffer a moment while she delays answering the phone notifying her she has a text with a witches’ cackle sound effect.

¤ ֎ Ethan Talbot ֎ ¤ eyes her and waits, fingers drumming on the table after a bit. “That is your phone alarm?” He’d then look at Cade and seemingly around him and then shrugs. Maybe this strange familiar spirit was actually in the device.

φCadeφ shakes his head and holds up his hands in a defensive posture. “Nothing like that. She’s an artificial intelligence program so, technically, she doesn’t understand speech at all. She has to run it through a subroutine that converts it to text, cross reference that with her internal dictionary to see if she’s got a definition for that word then interpret that into bytes and bits and such that

actually make sense to her.”

<Vaclava>”My vwhat?”pretends confusion then pulls out her phone and looks at the message. “ah yes, my vphone alerts me to messages or calls. I thought it vwas appropriate during this season. You can change yours as vwell if you like.”

¤ ֎ Ethan Talbot ֎ ¤ “Yeah? I think I’ll let it be. I haven’t broken the phone yet and would like ta keep it that way.” He smirked. “Before, the most technological thing I had was my guns.”

<Vaclava>to Cade “I see, it does seem odd that a vfamiliar doesn’t understand speech if they hafve ears and brain, but then again I am certainly no expert, and I don’t judge how someone is born… My natifve language is Czech, and I grew up in a household whose second language class vFrench. I studied and vworked many years in Paris, so I actually speak much better in vFrench than English. That vwas a language I didn’t

really learn much ofv until…afvter.”

<Vaclava>smiles and chuckles, unable to suppress delight at the gif

¤ ֎ Ethan Talbot ֎ ¤ smiles, glad she found his message and the fat unicorn gif to be funny.

φCadeφ nods at Vaclava. “Satisfied Hec? Good.” He smiles and turns his attention back to Vaclava. “Well, she doesn’t actually have ears and a brain. She’s a data spirit that became entangled with my spell casting assistance program somehow. So she’s closer in relation to your phone than say a cat or some other creature that many familiars usually are.” He turns to Ethan and cocks his head ever so s

lightly to the side. “Two questions, why the avoidance of technology? Second, what kind of guns?”

<Vaclava>*texts back quickly*”Apology accepted. Congratulations on location emoticons. Unicorns are always a favorite.” then she puts the phone away because it’s so rude to have out during conversation.

¤ ֎ Ethan Talbot ֎ ¤ thumbs up. “Great. I’m glad.” He pours some more jim beam and drinks. “This stuff isn’t half bad.”

¤ ֎ Ethan Talbot ֎ ¤ looks at Cade. “It’s not so much avoidance as it was not having the opportunity. Where I was, it just wasn’t around really. As for what type of guns, why six-shooters of course.” He takes one out and it’s a Colt Army Model 1860, .44 caliber gun. He whirls it around and then holds it out for Cade to see.

φCadeφ looks at the pistol with an approving gaze. “Oooh nice. Bit big for me obviously but you look like you could handle that kind of kick.”

¤ ֎ Ethan Talbot ֎ ¤ nods. “Yeah, easy enough for me.” He puts the gun away again.

<Vaclava> smiles, looking at the weapon with an appreciative eye. “Is that really as old as I think it is?”

¤ ֎ Ethan Talbot ֎ ¤ “Yeah, I’ve had them for 200 years.”

φCadeφ looks at Ethan with wide eyes. “I didn’t think shifters lived that long! I mean, I knew you lived longer than baseline humanity and retained your physical fitness for most of it but I didn’t think a second century was in the cards for you.”

¤ ֎ Ethan Talbot ֎ ¤ “Really? I have no idea how long shifters tend to live for since any I know tend to die out by violence.” He was thoughtful.

<Vaclava> raises an eyebrow but says only “Ethan is a man of many surprises.”

φCadeφ nods sadly. “Yeah that does seem to be a common end for your kind, but I’d read tales of Mages who met Shifters who claimed to be near the end of their life and on a quest to die in battle instead. Can’t recall exactly how old they were said to be but I could swear it was less than that. But then…” Cade shrugs. “That could be inaccurate.”

¤ ֎ Ethan Talbot ֎ ¤ “Well, you’re one up on me in that. I know of a few Shifters that are older than me.. only one of ’em is cool. I’ve been though same for a long time but some of that is because of the region I was stuck in.”

φCadeφ zones out for a moment, looking at his view feed and an embarrassed look comes over him. “Oh…uh…so Hecatrix just informed me that I’m thinking of a novel I read a few years ago.” He chuckles nervously and blushes. “My bad.” He chuckles again and stands up. “I could use another beer after that one, be right back.”

¤ ֎ Ethan Talbot ֎ ¤ “Now I’m curious as to what novel, but it’s not likely I read it either.”

<Vaclava>says quietly with a smile, “doesn’t mean it vwasn’t a true story, either efven if it vwas published as vfiction…life ofvten imitates art as vwell as the refverese. But you don’t hafve to tell him that.”

φCadeφ comes back with a beer and sits down in the booth. “I can’t believe I didn’t realize I was thinking of ‘Last Wolf of the West.’ That was like the best book in the series. Sad though.” He shrugs and sips his beer.

¤ ֎ Ethan Talbot ֎ ¤ “Never heard of it. I will have to try to locate it.”

φCadeφ chuckles a bit. “I could send you the e-books.” He looks over to Vaclava. “What about you?”

¤ ֎ Ethan Talbot ֎ ¤ “Okay.” Has no clue what an e-book is but he’ll roll with it.

φCadeφ smirks a bit, pretty sure that Ethan has no idea what’s going on. “Just need your email address and I can send you the file. I’ll send text and audio so you can listen to it on the road if you want. Pretty sure I have the whole series saved somewhere.”

¤ ֎ Ethan Talbot ֎ ¤ “Oh, okay. It’s E Talbot at gmail dot com.” He had this email thing down!

<Vaclava>presents Cade with a pretty little card with roses on it that has her contact info on it. Yes she still uses those despite how some folks find them so unfashionable these nights.

<Vaclava>”I vwould absolutely lofve to read it. Please do send it my vway.” She rises from her seat. “I’m avfraid I must be going vfor the evfening though, my vfriends, see you both later!”

φCadeφ takes the card delicately and taps at the air, having Hecatrix scan it and copy the information. “Wow, Vaclava, this is really cool. These must cost you a pretty penny.” He smiles and waves to her as she stands. “Looking forward to it!”

<Vaclava>kisses cheeks on both and departs.

¤ ֎ Ethan Talbot ֎ ¤ “Have a good night, Vaclava. It’s always nice to see you, even if you are mad at me.” * He grins.

¤ ֎ Ethan Talbot ֎ ¤ “She’s so pretty and that accent…” * looks off.

φCadeφ sighs and rests his chin in his hand. “Yeah man…she’s pretty great…” He too stares off at the door when she leaves.

¤ ֎ Ethan Talbot ֎ ¤ gets more of his drink and then holds the bottle out to Cade. “Want some stuff that is harder than beer?”

φCadeφ hesitates for a moment then shrugs, he did take a cab here after all. “Sure.” Cade takes the bottle in his hand a gulps down about a double shot worth. Immediately he coughs and covers his mouth with his arm while holding the bottle back out to Ethan, coughing and sputtering the whole time. “Oh man that burns!”

¤ ֎ Ethan Talbot ֎ ¤ takes the bottle back and smirks. “You’ll grow some hair on your chest from it. That’s what my dad used to say anyway.” He takes a good swig himself and smirks. He must drink a lot or have a tolerance from hell.

φCadeφ coughs again as he laughs. “Assuming my insides don’t spontaneously combust. Or my liver doesn’t fail.” He shakes his head and takes another drink of beer. “Drinking with a were…uh…wait are you a wolf or what?”

¤ ֎ Ethan Talbot ֎ ¤ “Yes, I am a Garou..or werewolf.”

φCadeφ nods slowly. “Garou…is that your word for it? Like how Daedalus is, apparently, a weredragon and those are called…oh what did he say…mokole?”

¤ ֎ Ethan Talbot ֎ ¤ “Yeah, he’s a mokole’ and I’m a garou. Every shifter type has a name they call themselves instead of just.. were-whatever.”

¤ ֎ Ethan Talbot ֎ ¤ takes out his phone and looks at it after it buzzes. “I have to go meet someone somewhere but it was nice to meet you, Cade. I stay at the Mages’ place so see you around probably.”

φCadeφ nods and lifts his beer as Ethan leaves. “Yeah man, see you around!”

¤ ֎ Ethan Talbot ֎ ¤ takes off, only after he drinks the rest of the contents of the Jim Beam bottle and sets it on the table. ~

φCadeφ has a few more beers before giving up on waiting for anyone else to show. He pays his tab with a decent tip for Erik, as always, then hails a cab to get back to the Chantry. Despite having woken up only a few hours ago, he already feels ready for a nap, which was partly his goal in going to the Trill. After that all night gaming session last night he needed to get his

sleep schedule at least semi on track. Cade spends the ride home in silence, tipping the cabby when he arrives, then heading in and flopping down onto his bed. After about half of a movie he is passed out, and Hecatrix shuts down all the electronics for him as he drifts off into dreams.
