<Sissy> is sitting at the bar, drinking a beer and just quietly observing the people as they come and go.
<Zane Calbeni> is in his usual horseshoe shaped booth near the back of the bar, reading a book with his feet propped up.
~*Ramirez*~ drove his old beater car to the Trill, parking on the side road about a half block away so he could walk the rest of the way. He’d head into the trill, looking about at who was where and what not. He’d give a glance out for the spirit just to see if it was acting up, but if it wasn’t, that was most excellent. He’d head over to Erik and order a beer.
“Hey Erik. How’s it going?” He’d then give a wave to Zane. “Yo Zane.”
<<Vaclava>> heads down to the Trill in a gold and purple satin ao dai with purple satin stage shoes
<Zane Calbeni> returns the wave and smirks a bit, looking up from his reading. “Hey, Ramirez.”, he says before spying Vaclava and giving her a boyish grin. “Ahhh, twice in the same week? I must have been a good boy.”
<Cade> tips the cab driver, having been unsure which of the cars at the Chantry was trustworthy. He walks into the bar and spots Ramirez. Cade laughs to himself, he must have left just a few minutes after Ramirez, at least he wouldn’t need to pay for a cab back. He walks over to the bar and sets down some cash. “Beer please.” He smiles and looks over at Ramirez. “Fancy meeting you here!”
He glances around and then blushes when he spots Vaclava, turtling into his hoodie.
<<Vaclava>> smiles att Erik and gives hom as very large tip for that bottle of zima she’ll never drink then goes over to Zane and Ramirez.
<<Vaclava>> smirks and adjusts her shoes before sitting down giving them a nice view of surprisinglylow cut ao dai
~*Ramirez*~ nods to Vaclava. “Que pasa, Vaclava?” He’d take a drink out of her Zima and hands it back to her, since she wasn’t going to actually drink from it. The act was so fluid it could be missed likely by anyone not her or someone really paying attention. Gotta help the vampire friends keep up the gig. His attention went to Cade, who now showed up and
spoke to him. “Hey hombre. Sup?”
<Sissy> looks over, watching the group gathering up for the moment from her spot at the bar. She orders up another beer, and slides the first bottle away.
<Cade> shrugs, and visibly struggles not to stare at Vaclava, turning several shades of red each time he fails and glances at her. “Oh…nothing…just trying to clear my head. Lots of studying to do and such. Good to take a break from time to time ya know?”
<<Vaclava>> kiss kiss each of them on the cheek, includes cade because he is just so adorably blushing and sits down
<Zane Calbeni> totally appreciates the view and makes sure to give Vaclava prime seating as he moves his feet and puts the book away.
<Cade> nervously giggles when Vaclava kisses his cheek and takes a big swig of his beer.
~*Ramirez*~ looks at Cade. “If you keep changing colors, we’re going to have to get you some oxygen.”
<<Vaclava>> “You a good boy, Zane? Tsk…don’t you know vwomen only like bad boys?”
<Cade> kicks Ramirez under the table and swipes his hand through the air to ignore Hecatrix’s equally smart-assed remark.
<Zane Calbeni> tugs on his leather jacket a bit and shrugs. “You saying that you prefer a pervert to a gentleman?”
<Sissy> smirks a bit to herself and shakes her head, taking another drink of her beer.
~*Ramirez*~ looks down as his leg is hit. He’d have to remember to sicc Hollow on him later. She was itchin’ for mischief anyway. He’d smile amiably though and then look over at Zane. “Yeah, I think that’s what she said.”
~*Ramirez*~ glances over at Sissy though and her peculiar drink she did not want to drink and then the one in front of her now.
<Hollow(Spirit)> just chuckles evilly and eyes Cade’s phone. “This could be fun.”
<<Vaclava>> clicks her tongue “Vwho said anything about perverts? You don’t hafve to be a sexual defviant to express your interest and yet act like you don’t care at all. Lofve bomb and then ghost. It’s a thing.”
<Cade> has absolutely no idea what Vaclava is talking about, but he watches her as she talks, doe eyed. He takes a few more drinks of his beer and rests his face on his hand.
<Zane Calbeni> raises an eyebrow. “It is. But it’s wrong to do to a person. Or are you upset at someone… Cora maybe? And i should keep my big mouth shut?”
~*Ramirez*~ lofts a brow. He then would sip his drink.
<Sissy> takes another drink of her beer, she smiles slightly when Ramirez looks her way but remains quiet.
<<Vaclava>> blinks “Upset? At Cora? vfor vwhat?”
<<Vaclava>> “Oh because she’s a bit ofv a perfvert?”
<Cade> looks over at Sissy and sighs, rubbing his forehead. There was a disturbingly large number of attractive women who frequented this bar. This did not bode well for his chances of ever getting anything done, or keeping his embarassing little secret.
<Zane Calbeni> holds his hands up. “Okay, my bad. Well, yeah… I believe Lynn’s term for it was well-travelled… but that’s beside the point.”
<<Vaclava>> “Vwell trafveled…right…Cora is a vfree spirit. L’amour etes un oiseaux rebelle, avfter all.”
<<Vaclava>> “But then…so am I.” slow smile.
<<Vaclava>> looks off into space “Or am I the bull. I can nefver decide.”
~*Ramirez*~ “I don’t know if either of you are the bull or you are both the bull.”
<Zane Calbeni> just shakes his head and then looks over to Ramirez. “So you planning on looking for the Ghost Ship this time?”
<<Vaclava>> her gaze snaps back to ramirez and she smiles toothily “Ah no, I remember now, I’m the matador.”
~*Ramirez*~ nods to Zane. “Yup. You got that boat available so i can bum it and go check it out with some others?”
<Sissy> smiles a bit at Cade as well, and finishes her beer. She watches the group off and on though.
<Cade> just sits and drinks his beer, eventually ordering a second. The entire conversation is going above his head but he doesn’t really mind, less opportunities to make a fool out of himself. He does, however, perk up at the mention of a Ghost Ship, and gives Zane and inquisitive look.
~*Ramirez*~ grins to Vaclava. “That’s hilarious.”
<Zane Calbeni> nods to Ramirez. “I can get the boat set up easily.”
~*Ramirez*~ “Great. I can get the people who want to come along then. How many people can go on this boat?”
<Cade> seems distracted for a moment, and twitches his fingers in the air, scrolling through messages from Hecatrix. “Fine, if it’ll shut you up.” He mutters. “But in a minute.” He looks up at Ramirez. “What’s the deal with this ship?”
<<Vaclava>> “hmm vwhat in the vworld are you talking about? a ghost ship..”
<Deveraux> is standing outside the Trill at the moment, plainly visible to all who come. He’s standing as still as a statue and might be mistaken for such until his hair and the tails of his coat move in the wind.
<Erik> walks over to Zane and says something to him quietly, then walks back to the bar after Zane shakes his head and starts to get up.
<Zane Calbeni> “Uuuuhhh… like maybe eight people?”, he gets out of the booth but waits, looking toward the big steel front door, which has a few new dents in it.
~*Ramirez*~ looks over at Zane and then around the area, sensing, scanning. Something was afoot! He’d respond to Cade though. “It’s no bueno. Just a momento.” He’d stand up as well.
<Cade> looks at Ramirez curiously. “Everything good man?”
<Sissy> glances up and then where they seem to be diverting their attention before getting another beer.
<Zane Calbeni> nods his head, and glances to Ramirez. “It’s fine. I think. Visitor from out of town bumped into a few nights ago… he’s uh, pretty eccentric.”
<Deveraux> amps up his hearing and continues to watch the building, but now listens intently since the music isn’t so loud that it would deafen him. He reaches into his waistcoat and removes his pocket watch, glances at it after clicking it open, then closes it and tucks it back into the pocket from whence it came. He taps his black walking stick on the ground one time and then
starts slowly walking toward the heavy door.
<Cade> sighs and rolls his eyes as a series of messages pop up on his view feed. “Yeah yeah, I get it, enough please.”
~*Ramirez*~ “Oh? Is he like you or something else?”
<Zane Calbeni> lowers his voice and looks to Ramirez. “Like me. But he seems pretty chill.”
<Deveraux> pulls the door open with one hand as casually as one might open a cupboard and steps in, removing his tophat as he’s now inside and that is the proper thing to do. He steps off to the side so as not to block the door and then does one slow look around the room before standing there and then remaining still again.
<Sissy> looks up, looking back to the group off near the back, then toward the door curiously. Her dark eyes scanning for a moment before she quickly looks back to her drink.
<Cade> looks up as the door opens. “Oh hey, it’s that Deveraux guy! Somehow…he is not any less creepy the second time around.” Hecatrix flashes her agreement on his view field.
<Zane Calbeni> nods in greeting to Deveraux. “Evening, glad you could make it by.”
~*Ramirez*~ nods and would study Deveraux a moment as he entered.
<<Vaclava>> looks up and studies devereaux a moment as he enters Zane’s fine establishment.
<Deveraux> bows slightly in greeting to Zane, “Yes, I thought it was time to see your establishment.” He walks over toward Zane to speak without being too loud, “I see some faces I recognize and others that I do not.”
<Cade> looks at Sissy and cocks his head. He twitches his fingers in the air several times, frowning more deeply each time and muttering, having a bit of an argument with Hecatrix. “Fine…whatever. Just hush.” He looks back to Sissy and waves slightly to get her attention. “Are you okay? You seem like you’re a little freaked.” He blushes a bit as he talks but pushes through it.
<Sissy> doesn’t seem to hear him at first and she turns to face Cade and looks at him a bit confused, then makes some motions with her hands. (ASL: I did not hear you, but I am fine. Thank you.)
~*Ramirez*~ looks at Deveraux and then back to Sissy and around. Deveraux’s clothes kind of reminded him of Baron Samedi’s with the top hat going on there and the cane, but he definitely wasn’t the right color.
<Deveraux> turns his attention to Ramirez and bows slightly in greeting, “I am Deveraux. Nice to make your acquaintance Mister…?”
<Cade> looks at her with some confusion and shrugs sheepishly. “I’m sorry, I don’t know sign language.” He taps at the air a few times. “Hecatrix make a note to add sign language translation to your next update. If I can figure it out.”
<Zane Calbeni> nods a bit at that and leans back against the seat of the booth where Vaclava is. “Well, we kind of draw all kinds in here. Especially as of late.”
~*Ramirez*~ inclines his head politely. “Ramirez. Deveraux.. French?”
<Deveraux> “The name is indeed French, yes. Yours is Spanish unless I am mistaken?”
<Cade> eyes Sissy for a moment and smiles. “Huh…interesting…”
<Sissy> smiles and takes another drink of her beer. She nods to him. “I can talk, it’s hearing that is the problem.”, she says as she moves her glance between him and the oddly dressed newcomer.
~*Ramirez*~ “Yeah, it is.” He nods again, politely. “That suit is interesting. You have some keen style goin’ on there.”
<<Vaclava>> proffers a hand to devereaux “Je m’appelle Vaclava Kapralova, Monsieur Devereaux, encharme.”
<Deveraux> “This was all the rage as they used to say in the mid to late 19th century. I grew fond of the style and etiquette of the period.” He then turns to Vaclava and replies in French, using her dialect, “It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance, Miss Kapralova. I do beg you to forgive me for not being proper but I dislike physical contact unless absolutely necessary.”
<Cade> follows her gaze to Deveraux then waits for her to look back at him so she can read his lips. “Ah, gotcha. Don’t worry too much about Deveraux. He’s…creepy, but if he could have eaten me in the park if he wanted and didn’t. So I think he’s ok.”
<Sissy> leans in really close to Cade and whispers in his ear. “Maybe he just wasn’t hungry yet.”, and then leans back again and takes another drink of her beer.
<Cade> looks at her with wide eyes and gulps, going from the deep red he’d been when she leaned in to a ghostly pale.
~*Ramirez*~ nods at what Sissy said. “She has a point. You may just be marked for later.”
<<Vaclava>> withdraws her hand “Ah, no vworries, Monsieur, completely understandable in this night and age.” she smiles charmingly.
<Deveraux> nods to Vaclava, “Thank you for that.” He glances over at Cade and Sissy now, then asks the small group he’s near, “Cade I have already met. Is it alrighty to discuss things openly with the woman he speaks with or should the truth of things remain veiled?”
<<Vaclava>> “The Trill is certainly not the place to be a stickler vfor vformalities.”
<Zane Calbeni> smirks and looks to Vaclava. “Well, not that we don’t have our own rules.”, he then looks back to Deveraux. “She hangs around here sometimes and seems to know what’s going on. Kinda thought she was either a Mage or someone’s ghoul.”
<<Vaclava>> follows his gaze to Sissy “Oh, her? I don’t know her though I hafve seen her about, I’m sure…sometimes it’s best to allow people their masks of anonymity…”
<Sissy> sits back down and shakes her head a bit at Cade, seeming to be ignoring the converstaion going on not far away.
<Cade> slowly feels the color come back to his face. “So…uh…you seem to…’know the score’ as they say. Mind if I ask how that happened?” He looks to the group again, then back to Sissy. “You know…I could try to listen in on them for you if you like.”
<Deveraux> looks over at Cade and Sissy again, his eyes lingering on her for a bit before he looks back at those he’s speaking with. “All possibilities I suppose.”
<Sissy> looks back toward Cade and shakes her head. She then sets the other empty bottle down and pays for them.
<Cade> shrugs “If you say so, and it’s ok if you don’t want to tell me how you go into this life. I get it.” He retreats into his hoodie a bit and sips his beer.
<Storyteller> Cade notices his shoe that he kicked Ramirez with now seems extra flappy. The sole seems to be peeling right off. His sock may also be shedding.
<Cade> looks down at his foot in horror and kicks the shoe and sock off frantically. “Ok yeah that’s bad!”
<Sissy> looks down at his shoe and frowns a bit, shaking her head. “Careful.”
<Storyteller> The shoe definitely looks like it’s seeing its final days. The sock too. If shoes and socks could die, these did.
<Zane Calbeni> glances over toward Deveraux, then finally retakes his seat at the booth. “Well, this place is nothing if not usually interesting.”
<Cade> looks at her with wide eyes. “Yeah no kidding! What the heck happened? I feel like I should be having a funeral for the poor things!”
<Deveraux> “That is the very reason I am in the area. Interesting things are afoot. So far I have encountered an assortment of interesting people, some more than others but we are all unique so that is to be expected.”
~*Ramirez*~ studied Sissy a moment and then turned and went to take his seat back at the booth. He’d give a glance over to Cade and his poor sock and shoe but didn’t seem to react other than taking note of it. He’d take a sip of his beer as he verified to himself at least that Sissy was no Mage and she was very alive.
<Sissy> looks down at Cade’s feet. “Evil Eye. Definately.”
<Cade> glares at Ramirez. “Did you Evil Eye my shoe?”
<Deveraux> looks between Cade, Sissy and Ramirez, “I feel as though I have missed something…?”
<Cade> looks up at Deveraux then kicks the rotted remains of his shoe and sock out from under the table.
~*Ramirez*~ “That’s quite an accusation there, Cade. No, I did not evil eye your shoe.”
<Sissy> pipes up, “You brought that upon yourself.”, she says as she hops down off the bar stool.
<Cade> eyes Ramirez suspiciously. “So the shoe I kicked you with just happened to rot to pieces all on its own?” There is a playful quality to his tone, now that his foot seems to be safe from danger for the moment.
<Deveraux> looks back at Ramirez and says softly, “Very interesting, indeed.” He still watches Sissy in his periphery, though.
<Cade> spaces off suddenly, reading something in his view feed. “Crap, I gotta make a call I’ll be right back.” He stands and downs the rest of his beer, making a bit of a face as he isn’t used to drinking it quickly, then steps outside.
<Zane Calbeni> smirks, “Most do.”, he says and then looks toward Ramirez. “So, Ghost Ship… what is the plan?”
<Sissy> watches Cade go and then looks toward the others at the booth quietly, she turns back for a moment and speaks to Erik, ordering a coffee before quietly watching them again off and on.
~*Ramirez*~ nods to Cade. “Well, not all on its own.” He was going to explain it but Cade was stepping outside to go take care of business. He’d glance over at Deveraux a moment. That man was just so interesting.. and then back to Zane. “8 of us can go out… so I’ll need to find what other 7 want to go. Amy and Hollow can go too, since they won’t be
well, any trouble in that regard. We need to try to stop them from siphoning more souls from here and kidnapping the wraiths. I’m really not sure what we will have to do, but if we can take that out, or use it to get to that which is under the water, … eh, we need to figure that part out.”
«~Daedalus~» At about that moment, Dae would step in through the door and into the building proper, probably passing Cade on his way in. A slight wave is given, before he lets his eyes drift over the inside, looking for anyone familiar.. at least, besides the familiar face he had already passed.
~*Ramirez*~ “I’m pretty sure now that I can do some things to their weapons so they hit, and Katie could too.”
<<Vaclava>> “Ghost ships sound intriguing.”
<Deveraux> “Excuse me.” He moves over toward Sissy on the side where Cade wasn’t sitting and knocks on the bar to make sure she knows he’s there.
~*Ramirez*~ “It belongs to the demon that has been causing so much trouble here, or it is an aspect of the demonic presence. I’m not really sure. In the end, the pirates though from it have been killing people and stealing souls.”
<Zane Calbeni> “Spectres I think they were called?”
<Sissy> looks up, following the hand on the bar up to Deveraux’s face curiously for a moment. “Hello?”
~*Ramirez*~ nods. “Yeah, and now that there’s that big bunch of rips, thanks to David, at the hospital, it only strengthens them. There’s also this giant snake on the other side that has to be dealt with.”
<Zane Calbeni> “The eel, you mentioned that. Sounds really nasty… feel like we are having a Cthulu convention or something.”
<<Vaclava>> shakes her head and rises “I vwould like to be invfolfved. But vfirst, I must see a man about a gun.”
<Zane Calbeni> looks to Vaclava and chuckles. “Oooooh, I love it when you talk business.”
<<Vaclava>> wiggles her eyebrows that are way, way too thin to be like groucho’s.
<Deveraux> bows slightly to her and then signs, “Please excuse me, but I wanted to come over and introduce myself. My name is Deveraux and I was wondering if we could converse for a while if it would not disrupt your drinking?”
<<Vaclava>> “not that type ofv gun, you scamp.”
<Sissy> perks up a little and returns the sign language, setting her coffee down. “My name is Sarha, but people call me Sissy. I do not mind, what do you want to talk about?”
~*Ramirez*~ nods. “Yeah, kinda Cthuluu and Beetlejuice or something.”
<Zane Calbeni> nods his head. “Well there’s a mental image.”
~*Ramirez*~ “I’m going to talk to Sascha and see if she will come, and the other Kindred..hopefully they can play along fine.”
<<Vaclava>> raises an eyebrow “That vwill be interesting. Good efvening, darlings.” kisses cheeks and then leaves for the night.
<Zane Calbeni> groans, “Well, that is up to you. Though i may be able to assist in the bang and boom department.”
~*Ramirez*~ “Thanks for wanting to help us out, Vaclava. Have a good night.” He’d then look back to Zane. “Oh, yeah? If you can help out in that way too, that’s great. I’m sure Katie and I can make sure the weapons will harm these things.”
<Deveraux> will continue to sign, “Do you know if there is anyone else in this room that can understand the gestures we are making?”
<Sissy> responds again in sign, “No one currently here that I can see.”, she then takes a sip of the coffee while watching him attentively.
<Zane Calbeni> nods. “Well, that ship has caused a lot of damage over the years…”
<Deveraux> signs, “May we talk of the arcane arts or would you rather not discuss that subject?”
<Sissy> blinks and then sets the cup back down to sign back, “The subject does not bother me.”
~*Ramirez*~ “It’s what got me here. How long again has this curse thing been going on and can you tell me anymore about the ship?”
<Deveraux> will continue to sign while addressing Sissy, “It surprises you that I would ask about the subject?”
<Deveraux> sets his tophat down on the bar and leans his walking stick against it now, instead of leaving it tucked under his arm as he had been up until this point.
<Zane Calbeni> looks thoughtful and slides the book he was reading towrd Ramirez. “Actually, the very thing i was researching. Little local history on the subject. About 25 years… which is roughly the same time the city was taken by the Camarilla, and the same time the Curse too effect.”
<Sissy> shakes her head lightly and signs, “No. But if you are looking for information on the subject I may be of little help. But you are free to open discussion anyway, as I am curious what you would ask of me.”
~*Ramirez*~ picks up the slid book and turns it around so he can skim the section. “Interesting. This definitely will help.”
<Deveraux> “I can sense magic within you and was simply curious what type it was. Your aura is very bright and I find that curious as well.”
<Cade> steops back inside, shaking his head and buying an actual drink instead of just a beer. He goes back and sits with the group, flopping down into a chair. “So what did I miss?”
<Deveraux> looks at Cade as he comes back in front the other side of Sissy and speaks, “That is a matter of perspective.”
«~Daedalus~» Noticing Cade slip on by him, heading back.. somewhere, Dae would follow him with his eyes, tracing his movement to Ramirez and the other he recognized from before.. not that he knew who Zane was. Either way, that was at least something. Dae didn’t move to immediately speak up, instead moving to follow Cade on over to Ramirez, only offering a slight wave
once he was within visual range, “.. I apologize if I am intruding.”
<Sissy> nods her head a bit as she takes that in and then signs, “The magic comes from my blood, and so that may be why it seems bright. I am told it runs in my family, hearth wisdoms and secret knowledges. I am Romani, my magic often leads me to interesting places and things or away from danger. I can also repair anything from people to machines.”
<Cade> looks up at Daedalus and smiles, pushing a chair out with his foot. “By all means man, join in.”
~*Ramirez*~ “You aren’t intruding. Feel free to join us. Want to go after a ghost pirate ship?”
«~Daedalus~» “.. Would we not simply fall through the deck?”
<Zane Calbeni> shrugs. “Heck if I know how ghosts work.”
~*Ramirez*~ “Nah, I need to talk to Katie but I’m pretty sure we will be able to do things just fine with some changes to some items we carry.”
<Deveraux> nods to Sissy and signs back, “This makes sense. I have encountered many of your people throughout a great many lifetimes. Your blood goes deep into the roots of the supernatural. Are you from the old country or were you born here if you will permit me a personal question?”
<Cade> sits back, turtled into his hoodie, and sips on his Long Island Iced Tea, listening absently to the conversation.
<Zane Calbeni> chuckles faintly and gives Cade a poke. “Hey, what’s the matter?”
<Cade> starts a bit and shakes out of his fugue, he glances at Sissy and blushes a little but quickly looks away. “Oh…an old friend of mine is having relationship problems. That was the call I had to take. Also…I figured out what the glitch in Hecatrix is but I can’t fix it. That…that’s all.” His eyes unconciously dart to Sissy again.
«~Daedalus~» “I see then.. at least, as much as I can.. If I may inquire, .. how are we to board such a vessal?”
~*Ramirez*~ “Well, we have a boat that can fit 8 people that Zane is bumming us. He’s also gonna get us some boom sticks.”
<Sissy> nods and signs in return, “I was born here. I did not even know of my family until I got caught up in some unusual events that caused me to learn quickly about the world around me.”
<Zane Calbeni> glances over at Deveraux and Sissy, then back to Cade and shakes his head. “Yeah, okay. As for the ship and all that… be careful and don’t fall in the water. I have a feeling it’s really bad… people talk about the water turning black and people disappearing in it.”
<Cade> raises an eyebrow at Zane. “Noted. Thanks.”
<Deveraux> signs, “If you would like to learn more of your blood’s history I would be happy to teach you. We all should know where we come from and honor our ancestors. Do you know anything of this Ghost Ship that they’re talking about? Are we being rude for not speaking about it with them? I sometimes cannot tell.”
~*Ramirez*~ nods. “Yeah.. I’m pretty sure the thing that is worse is under the water.”
«~Daedalus~» “So we have a means of travel then.. The situation with the water is also noted and understood.”
~*Ramirez*~ “Yes, I just said we have a boat.”
«~Daedalus~» “I apologize for my vague wording; that is what I was referring to; I meant such as acknowledgement.”
~*Ramirez*~ orders another beer and cracks his knuckles. He looks at Daedalus a bit confused, furrowing his brows. “I’m not sure I understand what you are saying. We have a boat that can fit 8 people. I’m bringing some others who won’t well, matter in that regard lightly. We would need to find 5 others to go, since Vaclava has said she will go, and am I counting
you as in or not?”
<Sissy> glances toward the others and absently brushes her hair back on her right side, which reveals some scars there along her face and neck. She nods softly and then signs, “Very little, only that it is tied to a curse that the city is under that effects your kind’s ability to make others like you. As for speaking with them, I do not think it is rude, since we do not seem to have
anything to add.”
«~Daedalus~» “I will help as I am able to.. I was just noting that I understand that there is transport, and not to fall in the water.”
~*Ramirez*~ “Oh..okay. Yes, there’s transport.”
<Deveraux> nods and signs in return, “In this rare occassion that is correct. Usually I know quite a bit about topics of discussion.” He gestures surreptitiously toward the scars she just revealed, “Do they have anything to do with your inability to hear?” He quickly signs right after, “Forgive me, I am being forward again.”
<Zane Calbeni> nods his head. “Oh, there is Martin… he was willing to go out there.”
<Deveraux> looks over when the name “Martin” is spoken aloud, but then looks back toward Sissy.
<Cade> watches as Deveraux and Sissy sign, making sure that Hecatrix records the interactions for later use in his real-time transaltion program, but remains otherwise silent as he sips his drink.
~*Ramirez*~ “Yeah? He’d be a good help if he did. Cool.” He’d look over at Cade. “You want to come or is that a little heavy for you at this point?”
<Cade> blinks a few times and looks at Ramirez. “Uh…I don’t know anything about ghosts. Whole thing sounds way above my pay grade man. Pretty sure I’d be a liability.”
<Sissy> looks back to him fully and nods as she signs, “Yes. I lost the hearing on my right side in a fireworks explosion. It is alright. So where are you from?”
~*Ramirez*~ nods. “Alright. I’m sure we’ll hit you up for something else eventually.”
<Deveraux> signs, “What the history books of today call the Fertile Crescent. Does that mean you are not completely deaf? If it does I will not tell anyone or attempt to speak to you verbally.” He keeps following the Ghost Ship discussion, though, since his mind is easily capable of tracking several things at the same time.
<Zane Calbeni> looks over and then stands up, “I need to go check up on some things. You guys be careful and I’ll see what I can dig up weapons wise.”
<Sissy> smiles just a little and signs, “I am not completely deaf. I find I can observe people a little better if they don’t think I can tell what is really going on.”
<Cade> waves to Zane and goes back to nursing his drink.
~*Ramirez*~ “Mind if I borrow this book and bring it back tomorrow?”
<Zane Calbeni> nods to Ramirez. “Sure thing.”
<Deveraux> nods to her and signs back, “Clever.” He looks over at Zane, “Hopefully we may speak about your lectures in the near future. Be well, Zane.” He then zeros in on the book and tries to catch a glimpse of any words on it like a title or author.
<Zane Calbeni> chuckles a little and nods to Deveraux. “Yeah, sure. I have one coming up on modern tribal cultures. Rituals of soccer moms.”, he waves and then heads out the back door.
~*Ramirez*~ “Gracias.” He looked over at Cade. “So..how are you adapting to stuff here?” He was going to totally tuck the book away since well, he was protective of someone else’s property, but Dev might catch a title before he tucked the book in his jacket.
The book is one Legends of New Orleans, 150 years of true hauntings.
<Cade> shrugs noncomittally. “It’s weird, not used to so many different Night-Folk. But most of them don’t seem aggressive so far so…that’s not all that big a deal.”
<Deveraux> seems puzzled at the mention of a tribe comprised of soccer moms. He blinks a few times checking the details files of his mind.
~*Ramirez*~ nods and then takes a good draught of the beer he had before him. “You get used to it. It’s actually kinda comforting to me in some ways.”
<Cade> shakes his head. “If you say so man. Don’t get me wrong, it is interesting, but I’m more of an ‘observe from afar’ kind of guy.”
<Sissy> smiles and finishes off her coffee, then looks from the group over to Deveraux curiously and signs, “Soccer Moms have their own rules, clothes, status… making them form a modern tribal structure.”
~*Ramirez*~ “Observer from afar. I don’t know that that works so well around here for most people. You’d have to be pretty powerful to maintain that stance.”
<Cade> shrugs and smiles. “Or just…not leave the Chantry? That’s an option.”
<Deveraux> comments idly, “Or decide that observing from a great distance does not yield the level of information suitable for your needs.” He then forces a trademark cold smile at Sissy and signs back, “Modern subculture. I think I understand.”
«~Daedalus~» “If you do not stretch the boundries of your comfort zone, you will never grow.”
~*Ramirez*~ “I suppose you could do that, but what would you really learn if you do not experience it?”
<Cade> shrinks into the confines of his hoodie again and takes another drink. “A lot more than I’d learn if I was dead, or crazy. That’s for sure.”
~*Ramirez*~ decided to not go into the fact that the chantry wasn’t always safe. Might as well let the poor new guy have some kind of temporary comfort. It wouldn’t last long.
~*Ramirez*~ “Death isn’t so bad. Done it. Twice now.”
<Cade> eyes Ramirez, not sure if he is serious. “Just the one time is fine for me. Preferrably several decades from now.”
<Sissy> gets up and nods politely to Deveraux, “I should get going, gotta sleep sometime and I do have daytime stuff to do. But it was nice meeting you. I wouldn’t mind speaking to you again and it is good for me to get some practice with sign.”
~*Ramirez*~ “Don’t knock it till you try it. It’s an experience.”
<Deveraux> nods and bows to Sissy, “It was a pleasure to make your acquaintance. I hope to have the chance to converse with you again in the near future. Please be safe.” He then looks back to Ramirez and Cade and now Daedalus to give them his attention.
<Cade> shakes his head. “I’m good, thanks. I like my books and my programs. I had my fill of the ‘exciting’ aspects of this life already.” He watches Sissy leave but doesn’t say anything, taking another drink instead.
<Sissy> waves to Cade and smiles at him before she heads out the front door.
~*Ramirez*~ glances over at Deveraux, who was now apparently done signing and conversing with Sissy. He’d wave to Sissy as she was departing and then smirks to Cade. “It’s not for everyone I suppose.”
<Deveraux> “Death becomes some of us, Cade. Just because the body dies does not mean that existance has concluded. Quite the opposite if my own experience is to be a reference.”
<Cade> looks at Deveraux and seems like he wants to say something, but thinks better of it and takes another drink. “So. Ghost ship. That’s weird. What are you guys planning to do about it?” A transparent attempt to take the focus off of himself, but in his somewhat inebriated state it is the best he can manage.
~*Ramirez*~ “It’s all a cycle, a great wheel. Life and death are parts of existence, and there are stages between. The ghost ship is a part of a greater problem. Hoping to take it out since the beings on it are connected to the demon under the water. The specters are stealing souls from this place to empower it.”
<Deveraux> focuses his gaze on Cade, “Do you feel that you cannot offer contrary opinions to my own due to risk of harm?”
<Cade> seems to get a bit pale as Ramirez mentions demons and spectres and shakes his head, then turns to Deveraux. “N-no! I…I just…I didn’t want to be rude.”
<Deveraux> “Sir, I consider it discourteous for one to not share thoughts and opinions, even if clearly conjecture, while engaging in open and honest discourse.”
<Cade> sighs and holds up a hand in defeat. “I just…well with everything I’ve read about ghosts and vampires…I just think that when I die, I’d rather stay dead.”
<Deveraux> nods, “Why would you hesitate about sharing such an opinion?”
<Cade> “Well, I mean, it is basically saying I’d rather die and be gone than end up like…you.”
~*Ramirez*~ smirks slightly at the answer though his eyes seem to look off in thought.
<Deveraux> “I was not given the choice to become what I am. If I had been presented with the choice I cannot honestly say what I could have decided at the time. Many of us are not consulted before we are taken. I would never do that unless the person wanted it.”
<Cade> is visibly relieved at that response. “I’m sorry. That sounds like it sucks.”
~*Ramirez*~ “That is good to hear that you would give someone else the choice. Some people are better equipped for it than others are.”
<Cade> mutters under his breath. “Same could be said for being a Mage too.”
<Deveraux> “I say that for several reasons. One of which is as you say. Not everyone is capable of existing in this manner. There is also my belief that mortality should be defended. All things eventually die, including those like me.”
~*Ramirez*~ “We all return to the cycle eventually.” He nods.
<Deveraux> nods to Cade, “Sometimes we must all make the best of our individual circumstance. This is the fate that befalls us all.”
<Cade> stirs his drink with the straw absently, swiping the air to mute Hecatrix’s inquiries. “Yeah well…fate sounds even more above my paygrade than ghosts.”
~*Ramirez*~ “You are what you are. You can defy some things and bend some things and well, be stuck to patterns as well.”
<Cade> looks to the chair where Sissy had been sitting, then over to where Vaclava had been before she left then sighs. “Yeah…no going back I guess.”
~*Ramirez*~ “Is that what you want to do?”
<Deveraux> “Fate is a very interesting topic of discussion, but I must be off and will hope that we may discuss it another time.” He straightens and taps his stick on the ground ones before bowing to them, “Gentlemen, it has been a pleasure. I look forward to our next conversation. If either of you wish to get in touch with me I have acquired one of these celluar devices and can
share the numeric code with you if you wish?”
<Cade> nods to Deveraux. “Sure, that sounds good.” He then shrugs and sighs again, turning to Ramirez. “I…I don’t know. It’s just a lot you know? This stuff killed Aunt Lucinda. It ran me out of my home, became a secret I have to keep from my friends, and tends to scare as much or more than anything else. And there are other issues too. Don’t get me wrong, I like magic, I like Hecatrix,
that part is great, but sometimes it feels like I lost more than I gained.”
~*Ramirez*~ “I hope we can talk again. You seem to be quite well versed in things I’m probably still learning about or don’t even know of. Have a good night, Deveraux.”
<Deveraux> nods. He’ll recite his phone number for them and then collect himself and make his exit after bidding them all a good evening.
~*Ramirez*~ “And sure.. I’ll take your phone number.”
«~Daedalus~» “I feel I must depart from this conversation as well… Though as an aside, my friend;” Dae turns to Ramirez for a moment, “We shall be training soon; of course, this offer is relatively open, to whom it may be relevant to, of course.”
~*Ramirez*~ looks back to Cade after collecting the number and he nods. “I can understand that you would be reluctant. I did warn you though that New Orleans is not somewhere that you can really avoid the supernatural. It has a history of things we are still uncovering and learning about and it has new vibrance. I get keeping this all a secret. I do too. It’s
not like I can tell those I work or run with what I do on the side or what I feel and observe.”
~*Ramirez*~ nods to Daedalus. “You have a good night too, mi amigo.”
<Cade> waves. “Later Daedalus.”
«~Daedalus~» He’d move away from the table then, waving on his way out.
<Cade> sighs. “I guess you’re right. It just has been a really rough couple of years.”
~*Ramirez*~ “I came here to kinda escape something bad too, Cade. I get it. That was before I was awake. Now that I am, I see there’s nowhere to really run for long. You have to take a stand eventually and dig in your heels.”
~*Ramirez*~ “Maybe you won’t fight like I do, or others, but you’ll figure out your strengths too.”
<Cade> seems to have a flash of anger, but it quickly fades, and he seems drained. “Thanks man. I…I think I’m gonna head home. I’m really feeling that last drink.”
~*Ramirez*~ “Alright. I’ll go with you and give you a ride out if you want. You okay though? You seemed rather angry.”
<Cade> nods. “I’m fine Ramirez, thanks. Just drank too much I think. I would appreciate the ride.”
~*Ramirez*~ nods and would depart, taking Cade back to the chantry.
